From random outages with no clear cause to problems that can’t be fixed by changing settings to unwanted Orbi Firmware Update it’s not uncommon to need to reset your Orbi.
This doesn’t mean that the Orbi is a bad device, though. In fact, we gave the Orbi a higher rating for performance than the much more expensive Amazon eero Pro and a higher rating for both speed and range than the Linksys Velop.
But if nothing else works, you will have to do a good Orbi factory reset not working Even though you will lose your settings, this is the most reliable way to fix an Orbi and get your home’s WiFi back online.
Before Resetting Orbi Things You Need to Know
If you reset the Orbi, you will lose all the settings you made. This includes the name of your network, your password, and how it is set up.
Also, a reset will break the link between the router and the satellites.
Because of these things, you should only reset the device if you have tried everything else.
If you’ve tried everything else to fix the problem and still want to reset the device to factory settings, keep reading this guide.
3 Methods To reset Orbi
Netgear suggested the first way.
This is the standard way that Netgear says you should reset your router. This reset will be the only one you need more than 90% of the time.
The good news is that the process is very easy.
- Turn on your Orbi router.
- Find the button on Orbi that says “RESET.” This is a hole near the bottom of the router that can be used to stick a pin through. All the device’s ports are on the right side of the controls, which is where the button is.
- Press and hold the reset button for 7 seconds or more with a straightened paper clip, toothpick, or thumbtack. When the green “POWER” LED starts flashing in amber, you have held the button down for long enough.
At this point, the reset is done, and the device returns to how it was when it was first made. Note that it may take a few minutes for the device to reboot and turn back on.
2nd Method
Sometimes, the default way to orbi reset not working.
If the above method of resetting the device didn’t work, try the steps below. This method is called a “30-30-30” reset, and it will soon be clear why it is called that.
- Turn on your Orbi router.
- Hold the reset button for 30 seconds with the power on (using a paper clip or toothpick described above). Don’t let go of the reset button when you’re done.
- Next, turn “OFF” the power and keep holding the reset button for 30 seconds. Once more, don’t let go of the reset button.
- The last step is to turn the device back to “ON” and hold the reset button for 30 more seconds.
At this point, you should reset the device to factory settings.
If this didn’t work, go back and read the steps above, then try again.
Check to see that you didn’t let go of the reset button at any point. In total, you should use a paper clip to hold down the reset button for 90 seconds as you go through the steps.
3rd Method
There is one more way to try if the first two don’t work. If this doesn’t work, it’s time to admit defeat and call tech support.
- Remove all cables from the Orbi except the one that supplies power.
- Turn on your Orbi router.
- As shown in the first method, hold down the reset button for 7 or more seconds. Don’t let go of the button yet.
- Next, unplug the Orbi and hold the reset button for more than 7 seconds. Don’t let go of the power button yet.
- Then, plug the Orbi back in and hold the reset button for 7 seconds or more.
- At this point, you can finally let go of the reset button.
After the Reset is Done
All your settings and customizations will be removed when you perform a factory reset, as mentioned above. In addition to that, you will need to couple the Orbi with your satellites once again. The installation is really simple, which is a positive feature. You will simply need to proceed through the same processes that you did when you initially set it up.
Last things to say
If none of the three methods you can’t reset orbi the router were successful, you should probably contact the customer service department of Netgear. I really hope that you went ahead and purchased the costly extended warranty that includes technical support.
In all seriousness, you can check out some other message boards on the internet, and one of those message boards might contain the answer to the particular question you have. So don’t despair just yet. However, one of the three methods to reset should be sufficient to get you back online in at least ninety percent of the cases.
